"Pour la Divine Liturgie, l'Ancien demandait au moine qui venait l'aider et servir comme chantre de se présenter au matin lorsqu'il faisait clair. Pendant la Divine Liturgie, il demandait au moine de rester dans l'étroit couloir hors de la chapelle et de chanter "Kyrie eleison" à cet endroit, afin que lui, père Tychon, puisse se sentir totalement seul et à l'aise pour sa prière. Lorsqu'ils arrivaient au Cherubikon, père Tychon était enlevé dans une extase spirituelle qui durait de 20 à 30 minutes, et le chantre était obligé de répéter l'hymne des Chérubins tout ce temps, jusqu'à ce qu'il entende les pas de l'ancien à la Grande Entrée. Lorsque le service liturgique était achevé et que je demandais à l'ancien ce qu'il avait vu, il répondait "Les chérubins et les séraphins glorifiant Dieu!" Et il ajoutait "Après une demi-heure, mon Ange gardien me ramène et alors je continue à célébrer la Divine Liturgie"

Elder Tychon, the spiritual father of Saint Paisius the Athonite
"For the Divine Liturgy, the Elder would tell the monk who came to help him and act as chanter to come in the morning when it was light. During the Divine Liturgy, he would tell the monk to stay in the narrow corridor outside the chapel and chant ‘Lord, have mercy’ from there, so that he, Father Tychon, could feel entirely alone and at ease in his prayer. When they got to the Cherubic Hymn, Father Tychon would be taken up in spiritual contemplation for twenty to thirty minutes and the chanter was obliged to repeat the Hymn many times, until he heard the footsteps of the elder at the Great Entrance. When the service was over and I asked the elder what he saw, he replied:
‘The Cherubim and the Seraphim glorifying God!’
And he went on to say:
‘After half an hour, my guardian angel brings me back down and then I continue with the Divine Liturgy.’ " (Saint Paisios)
